Jambi-Pk Baru-KL (This is where we start !)

Posted by Fico , Tuesday, April 21, 2009 10:28 PM

Here we go again, we start with Tiara Otocham (TOP) travel at 19.00 (i thought that would be 7.30, my mom said its 7 fika!) and we went to the TOP travel office. The ride cost us Rp 180.00 per person. We leave jambi at 19.50pm (nearly 8 pm).
Most of time, the person next to me sleeping (how can she sleep when the road is so bumpy?? uugghhh !) hihi.. i wake up like 5-6 time during the trip. We stop 3 times, its much more than i ever did which is one time last time when i went to PK baru for..erhhh.. Chevron test ! hihihi..
11 hours they said to reach PK Baru. We discuss with the driver, several of the passenger also want to catch up some flights to different places like Medan or Jakarta. We agree to pay Rp 15.000 .. maybe at first he meant, 15.000 per each person, but then when we're arrive we just gave him Rp. 15.000 only for both of us.
We arrive at Pekan Baru, Riau airport/Sultan Hasan Kasim II at 5.40 am. There's less people there. Sky still dark, but there's airport sucurity guard checking luggae with x ray's, obviously we're not the first flight this morning. We went to the checking lobby, through the x-ray scanner and rushing to the bathroom, and take shower. To be honest, its a bigger bathroom than in Jambi airport, but i could say, this is moooore dirty than the one in Jambi (a dying cockroach on floor as a proof of the level of cleanliness, and my mean girl status, hehe).
After bath (and groomed our self) we went to Air Asia counter.. and guess what.. they are giving us the seat that we want for FREE CHARGE. As far as i know, Air Asia will give you seat but if you pat for sum of money (Fast Boarding?) but we got it for free ! yay ! thank you to PK Baru Air Asia!!
After boarding we proceed to the airport tax both, we pay Rp 75.000 for international flights, we then went to the second floor for immigration. We had our NPWP card copy, also our passport copy, so we just gave it to the immigration officer and get a stamps on our passport and boarding card.
We went to another x-ray for waiting room, and guess what, they stop us because they thought they "found" something suspicious on Maria's bag (eeeewww !!)
They ask, what is the "tube" inside her bag, she get more confuse because she only brought bottle of water, and that's the only "tube" that she know. And they re-scan her bag again, and ask her to take out her bag, and put everything out. (me.. whaaat???!! i dont even know what is that !) and then they figure it out ! it was the flash light !!!! (uugghhh so much for hiden tubes !).
They apologize and please us to come in and wait for our flight (fiuuuhh !).
Its a big waiting room. They also had canteen and serve breakfast. You could order tea/coffee or bread, noodles or even lontong (wow heavy !). I have a cup of tea while waiting, we do our breakfast and watch the plane landing and take off. I just also find out that we do have military base here also. We could watch fighter planes take off, its very good, i never know before we had airforce base here in Riau. And the planes not look bad either.
After breakfast then we decide to have some of Rupiah exchange to Ringgit. So we go outside back to the first floor near the toilet (arrival door). After changing the ringgit we went to the waiting room again on 2nd floor (we should do this before we went to the waiting room first place.. but we thought the money changer will be any near the immigration or waiting room).
Our flight is on schedule. We depart at 8.45 am i sleep during the flight which is only like 30 minutes !!
We arrive at KLIA-LCC at 10.25 am KL time. And speed up to immigration. There's several lines there (its on 2nd floor). First time i went there they mix up between the arrival and departure immigration. But i think this airport development that time not finished yet. I saw there's more details added, like this immigration lines.
When i went to the immigration lines, they ask if i am a student, i said no, and ask if i ever went to Malaysia before, i said yes, he ask again, do i had my return ticket i said, yes and no, i said i had flight ticket for Phuket, he ask why go there, i smile, vacation. hehehehehe... he ask too many questions... but its his job.
This time we are more "thought" really intimidate by the officers, heheheheheh !
When were taking our luggage my cousin send me sms said she is going to be late to pick us up, because she had an urgent meeting at her office (alittle bit sad thing because i do feel very tired) so we have 3 hours free time at the airport ! and we decide to explore a bit.
We went to Mc D's for lunch and its quite nice. Too bad the wifi is not so strong that i cant catch it with my cellphone (my lovey dopey P1i). But we touring around, playing cards, checking on good guys, cute daddy, weird people.. we really take our time very god ! hihihihih...
My cousin finally pick us up at 1 pm and we drive straight to my uncle house in Selangor. I almost fall asleep on the truck !

Last day in Bali (Kuta)

Posted by Fico , Wednesday, April 30, 2008 5:27 PM

We arrive in Kuta from Lovina in the afternoon. We decide to stay in Poppies lane 2 because at first we could compare it from Poppies lane 1, theres much better guest house and much cleaner and more options on poppies lane 2.
After check in we went for lunch at Kuta beach food court

Because its too hot so we decide to eat inside the food court. Its not so busy hours so theres not really that crowded. But i could see that this place could be packed in certain hours.

We went to Discovery Mall first to look up some clothes but then, euuuhhh.. a bit pricey there !!
So we end up shopping in Matahari (yay!). On the way to Discovery mall i saw the huge sling shot. I glance at Peter, and he say "NO". I laugh hard, i love this.... hahaha but i didn't try it.. just look at peoples who dare enough to do the sling shot... its so high !!! fun !

Kuta at night... this is what i call night life ! its feels like i'm in phuket but with indonesian language ! bars with loud music... motorcycle.. cars .. tourist.. cafe.. all the lights and sound.. also the sound of the wave on the beach.. ahhhh.. i could stay here forever... i don't feel strange why lots of expatriate want to live here...

When passing Hard Rock Cafe i see this (sorry its blurry picture) "And in the end the love we take is equal to the love we made" Beattles. Cool !

We went dining at Food Court in Kuta beach. Listening to music and i order coconut... yums...

We went back to the hostel at nearly 10.30 pm. Too tired..... Early morning its raining.. and we went to the beach...

We had our last morning walk at beach to see sunrise.. its not the best spot.. but its our last walk on the beach. Its raining really hard last night. We headed to Kuta beach from Poppies lane 1.

Theres few morning surfers already at beach (isn't they feel cold some how?)
Some food vendors sold hot coffee, tea and some locals food. We just walk until the edge of the beach, passing the discovery shopping mall.

The beach is dirtier because theres lots of garbage on the shore. Few people do their jogs, and some with their dogs.
And its raining for a while.. suddenly we saw this two beautiful rainbows very near at beach.
Its a good vacation.. ended beautifully..
We just sat down for a while to enjoy the "not so crowded" beach. Kuta beach well known with crowded beach bums and aggressive vendors. But this early morning you wont see them much (vendors and the beach bums).

Seeing two rainbows at the same time not the first time for me, but still.. its Kuta beach Bali double rainbows... hehehe its different...
Before 11.30 am i pack my thing and, i feel really sad. My vacation in Bali have to be ended. I grab my backpack and walk to the Kuta beach, looking for a cab. Peter staying for few more days. And we said our good bye as i got my taxi.
Thanks to him, my travel is quite interesting. Bali is the absolutely a place for relax with your friends, and yes, would be very romantic place to go with your love one (hehe...)
Oh God.. its just so sad this have to be OVER....
I really enjoy the vacation, 10 days seemed not enough for Bali. I will come here again... thats my promise...

hikss.. hikss... byeeeee bali !!!!!!!! i'll be right back !

Bali Day 2 (Kuta-Uluwatu-Ubud)

Posted by Fico , Tuesday, April 22, 2008 6:38 AM

We plan to rent a motorcycle today, also check out and get a ride to Ubud today.

Last night we short of decide we don't really like Kuta, its too crowded and too hot. It is very touristy that all you could see is foreigner and aggressive vendors try to sell their stuff. Its just not a place for relax, unless if you like party, and crowded place... then you will like Kuta.
So we went to front desk and check out. Then we rent a motorcycle from guesthouse for Rp 50.000,- for Honda Karisma (usualy for Rp 40.000). The address is at Jl Benesari Poppies lane II cellphone 08123917608. There's plenty of motorcycle rentals along poppies.. you had many choice from regular to automatic/scooter. And of course you could haggle the price down.
After breakfast and bath we put our luggage at front desk... and here comes trouble. I lost my driving license both for car and motorcycle, and Peter say he doesn't have international driving license. Hehehehe.. not good thing to do. I told the owner what happened, and i did ride motorcycle since i was like 13. He believe that.
But then i think.. he's not really used to ride motorcycle, and i do. Beside that.. police will notice a bule rider faster than a young innocent super cute chick (HAHAHAHA!) that ride like hell.. they wont bother that.. could be bad if he ride in front. So.. i'll drive i'll take in charge. And that seemed not bother him that much either (i thought he would tho). So, without proper papers we ride the motorcycle around Kuta (sorry for not being a good citizen..)
Here we are riding motorcycle around Kuta... the plan is.. to go to Jimbaran, Nusa dua, and to Uluwatu. We ride for like 30 mins and realize we are still in Kuta !!!!! ugghhh ! we lost !
Decide to see map and ask questions as many as i can to people on street, motorcycle riders, and some old guys... i ask and ask and ask..
I just can't believe there are less road sign in Bali rather than in my jungle city back then in Sumatra !! no sign where to turn, no sign that point the road goes to where about... its all very confusing !!
As one of big city in INDONESIA i think BALI should be shame of them self for not having so many what we call road sign ! and oh gossshhh the street so small to compare to wide street back then in my city !
No way i wont see anything here... return with empty hand, just lost around kuta (its pathetic !)
..errrhhh.. Peter seemed not really care, i think its because he already went to Bali for several times tho. But i am glad to get lost with someone hahaha !
We ride to bigger road, and theres lots big trucks and more cars. Its scared me a bit, i ask him if its okay if we go fast.. he just nod ! so i went 80kms/hrs !! never feel this happy..hehe. It is fun to ride motorcycle in Bali. Traffic little bit confusing but its not that dangerous as in Phuket for sure.

Peter (Little bit shy??)

Me at Nusa Dua Cottage gate

Finally for like 30 min we find Nusa Dua.. wow.. huge cottage. Beautiful and does seemed very expensive. We ride around for few minutes and then we headed to the beach. Its not a very crowded beach. And don't have that long white sand beach.. but it does clean. I think its because still quite early in the morning only several tourist there. Also there's less vendors selling their goodies made from seal shells. Its a quiet beach with only several people lying on white sand. I am not in the mood of having sun tan that time. Its a private beach so maybe thats why its not as crowded as in Kuta.
I bought three sea shells necklace for Rp 30,000,- quite expensive !! maybe because i am with Peter so they charge me more (they might expect him pay for me (^_^)! )
We then had some rujak (fresh fruit salad with peanuts sauce) for Rp 2000 for each of us near the beach. Ohhh its so sour... but its good not too spicy.. not bad ! I thought Peter wont go for spicy food, but he seemed okay.. you could ask for sweet sauce if you like to.
After rujak and a cup of coffee we decide to continue our motorcycle ride. We did a turn on the cottage to see more buildings and good parks and ten we went out side. Back to big busy road, asking the security guard for our next direction.. we headed to Garuda Wisnu Kencana.

At Garuda Wisnu Kencana (Jimbaran beach at back ground)

We go to Garuda Wisnu Kencana, and the entrance fee is Rp 15.000,- and for Peter he suppose to pay Rp 30,000,- i ask the security guy why is different.. they said because he's not "local" and then after talk and talk.. Peter only pay for local fee (hehehehe...). Thank you !

Posing on the wisnu statue.. its huge.. i like the gamelan sound on the background..

When we went to the huge bird stone carving (Garuda perhaps?) statue we saw there's wedding party.. or music concert must be really rich people who could married here.. but its beautiful.. hmmmm.. romantic.

I like to sit here for a while since we could heard balinese music on the background.. even the weather is so hot.. its windy.. nice..nice..nice.. i like the view.. so we just sit and enjoy the view for a while.
Then we go down stairs closer to the garuda carving just find out that the statue actually not made of rock it made of bronze (i really thought it was made by solid carved rock !!). Well... now i know the truth hehehe...
We feel so starve and its already 12-mid day, so we decide to have our lunch at the canteen where we could see some girls dancing. I eat batagor (fish meatballs and tofu with peanuts and chilli dressing) while Peter had gado-gado. I have the "es cendol" which worth the try, its really nice ! its indonesia traditional drink, taste sweet, good to drink after you've been long under the sun. Its not bad at all ! We watch the girls dancing with the barong its really good. I would love to stay here bit longer but we had other places to see.. hmm...

After eat our lunch we ride motorcycle again for like hours.. heading to Pura Uluwatu. This pura (temple) on the very bottom of Bali island. This Pura name meaning in balinese is the meeting between the sea and the land. This is where Bali island meet the big huge ocean. I thought we were lost again so lots of asking on the way there because its only small road with high grass and tree next to it, and its just long straight road, with less traffic coming toward us... but then after asking we didn't lost again and we finally saw the name of the temple, in a small road with a guy stand on street for ticketing, the price for each of us is Rp 7000,-

Its just worth the effort, the riding the motorcycle in the sun, and i feel so tired, but still happy ! the temple is amazing. The wave hitting the bottom of the rock its just like dream that i ever had ! just beautiful. So quiet ... like i feel peace here... it must be really good to see sunrise here..i think several people say its the best spot for sunrise. The temple it self full of monkeys too .. so be aware with your belongings.
After 3.30 pm (i am not so sure) we headed back to Kuta, high speed. We're planning to go to Ubud but we don't know what the latest shuttle bus that went there. Peter said there will be bus from Denpasar to Ubud, we just need to go to Denpasar.
When we finally arrive at our hostel i think it was at 5 pm the hostel said the last shuttle bus to Ubud was at 1 pm with PERAMA bus tour, and they don't know if there's any other transport else than renting a car.
Then we think we might could find transport along poppies lane, so we walk down the lane and see if the travel agent still have buses.
They're not of course. Lots of tourist in Bali already complain about this lack of transportation in Bali.. while in Jogja they already had TransJogja like in Jakarta. And the buses and the road facility.. they were not as good as i thought !! the road in Bali mostly as small as the street on my neighborhood !! only like 3 meters wide. But yes there's less hole or patches along the road. But its really tiny whiny and not much road sign about direction, distance and about traffic.
So i think its right when people said, be aware if you drive in Bali for the very first time !!
We then decide to rent a car because its already 5.17 pm and we're running out of choices. We rent a car from Dana Yoga Tourist service in poppies lane II (Mr Sugi-08124629245). From Kuta to Ubud they gave me the price of Rp 255,000,00 . I don't know the exact distance between Kuta and Ubud but i try to haggle the price down and i did and it stop at price Rp 150,000,- for both of us. I think its fairly enough since if we went with shuttle bus both of us will cost likely Rp 80,000,- well..... sure it could be lower if we had more time to look up tho. But its worthed, because we have this very nice mini bus, with cold airc ond, and the way the driver drive is really nice and smooth.
We arrive in Ubud nearly 6.45pm. I feel like fall a sleep during the trip, so sleepy... and starving, but still had to look up the bungalow that Peter ever stay in. He said its a very reasonable price bungalow, and clean too. So the driver is kind enough to drive around and find the bungalow. The bungalow name is "Sulendra" the price is Rp 75.000 for two person per night including breakfast.
Not bad..... the room is clean and have hot water. I am so tired (i think both of us are tired!) and starving. So we clean our self and then went out to find something to eat for dinner.
I like Ubud because its not so hot and the air feel so fresh ! i can't wait to see what Ubud looks like in the daylight !!

New Adventure : Bali Day 1

Posted by Fico , Monday, April 21, 2008 6:04 PM

Jambi Airport

As i wait for my flight to Jakarta, i don't even know what i feel. Happy, anxious, scared, jumpy..
I just check in to Batavia flight at 12.00 noon. And the flight was late (not new thing in Jambi i guess).
The waiting room is full of people, some that i know (i see two of my neighbor about to visit her daughter in Jakarta). I just sat in corner with my MP3 on my ear, but its not turned on.. just don't want to start a lame conversation with strangers. I did this sometimes.. heheh..
The plane was late for 20 minutes. As i board.. i choose the seat near window at wing side. Next to me is two guys at age 30-35 y/o. I still don't want to start a conversation.. so i still plug my MP3 player on my ears and put my shade on, sleep after take few shoot through the plane window.
Window seat, 3 rows back from the emergency exit is my fave seat, you could see the wing, and i think the best seat to take pictures.
I arrive at Jakarta at 13.30 i think. I still have few hours before air asia let me boarding. I put my huge back pack at the luggage trolley and start to roll out side the departure area. Looking for good place to eat lunch box that my mom push me to bring since Jambi had serious flight delay sometimes.
I don't feel like i want to stay outside the waiting room, the weather is hot, and its just too crowded !! as i went to Air Asia office i saw a sign said Rumah Makan Padang" and it had mushalla (praying place) its a good place to get some sleep.
I had less sleep since yesterday is my last day at work and i arrive at home last night at 7.15 pm straight from office with more bumpy road than last month (price for work in jungle). I had to re-pack my things last night and find there's several missing items that i can't find. I had to ask my sister to buy again, and borrow my brother in-law camera as well.

Jakarta Airport

Back to cengkareng (Soekarno-Hatta) again.
I went inside to check-in counter for Air Asia but the counter still empty. So i went back to Air Asia ticketing office, they said i could check in at 5 pm. And its still 1.45 pm.. so i look around the busy check-in areas, found corner next Air Asia counter, and sit on my trolley start to open my lunch box.

My Luggage

I only eat half of my lunch when the guy next to me start to talk with me. He is working for PT Semen Bosowa in Maros Sulawesi. He is with his friend on the way back to Sulawesi with Air Asia flight too. But his flight at 6 pm. His name is Faisal, and he gave me his card.
I like to travel by my self because it seemed that people tend to "want to know" you if you were seemed alone. Well its good. We talk until like hours !!
Until it was 5 pm and i had to check in and they were gone. Good guys !
I check my luggage in, good, no 11 kg's on my sight. I went upstair still have 2 hours to kill.
I check my gmail account on my cellphone no words from my "travel buddy" Peter (i'll explain this "details"on my next post).
I got my self a pack of panadol pills, i just afraid i'll get some flu cause less rest and i start to sneeze.. none like flu while traveling !
I went to waiting room, but the room is just too chill. I want to sit outside but then there's this bule guy sitting and read a book. So i went to the alley between gates and sit. And when i put my MP3 on and start to read my book "Why man don't listen and woman can't read maps" a woman try to read my book title. And at the end she talk and introduce me with her friends. They were in Jakarta for a health drink product seminar, they were from North Sumatra.
She depart and leave me after few minutes talking.
I ask the counter what time the flight will boarding, the air asia guy said it will be at 7 pm. Its close enough, so i sit on the waiting room for gate A7, in front of a guy read to some travel books and loud ipod.
He stare, i see, he bow, thats what happened for next 20 minutes. Not mind he is checking me out tho.. hehehehehe.. still no string attached and i am single mingle.. he is not bad at all, and had good smile.
But sure.. as i read.. vacation "fling" is the worse.. mostly wont end up in serious relationship.
I feel good when the waiting room is started to filled with several people, and speak in different languages.. english.. mandarin.. some korean and japanese...
Time to boarding... there's mix couple, i love to see their daughter... pretty !

What's funny about Air Asia is you had to really fast to get your seat !
When every body almost run to the front stair to plane instead of doing that i run to the back door stairs. I think thats a good way to get to my "fave seat" since i know the alley on the plane would be stuck from people getting their seat from front and put their luggage on the top of their seat, took times before you really sit on your seat.
And.. i am right !! none following me.. and i got my seat !
And more lucky.. none sit next to me, and i got all 3 seat by my self !! hahahahahaha !!! i am so lucky !

So 2 hours flight i sit with my leg stretched to the next 3 seat next to me !
Lots of other passenger see me.. and i know.. they were jealous ! me and my long feet get rest so good that i slept until almost landing ! i smile when i sleep !
The plane is landing nearly 11.30 pm Bali time. I did not change my watch because i think it would be easier for me to count time if i want to call back home.
My tummy is upside down... see outside its dark.. must be look so worried.
I look around the luggage claim place.. theres a girl with same smile and short of happy-worry smile just like me.. i start conversation "first time to bali?" and she said "yes!!" and then we talk abit until i see my luggage comes out. She then said i could share transport with them if i want to, then i said i had a friend pick me up--maybe, i am not really sure he will show up.. well he did say he will.. but then.. maybe i am not so sure, but i thank them.
I walk out and see.. Peter is there (my travel buddy).. we.. never see each other almost 2 years, just know each other by mails and chat..so this is the very first time i ever see the "real" person (weird but its happened) and my Bali adventure is started i guess...
We went outside the airport.. but on the parking lot there's a taxi cab stop, and its blue bird. We're lucky. Then we went to poppies lane 2 for hostels. The taxi fare is cost us about Rp 30-es thousand (i forgot the exact amount), but sure its lots cheaper than if we go from the taxi ticket from the airport arrival place which is 60-90 thousand rupiahs.
I already call kedin's inn two days before, but then they said the room is fully booked.. i am up for new plan. Its midnight and last 4-5 hostels that we check are full ! its not even peak season ! i am obviously very tired. With my 11 kgs back pack walk around poppies 2 is not that easy as its quite busy small/narrow streets with people, cars, and motorcycle passing you over and over. We finally went to smaller street or "gang" and find a hostel there.
We stay at "Bali Cottage" for Rp 50.000 per night incl. breakfast. Not exactly accommodation that i want, but we're just staying for a night, and the room is fairly clean tho (but i'm not so sure if they change the bed sheet). I mean the bath room is clean, and my friend not complain things.. we're good for tonight.
